What Sonoma County is Famous For: An A-Z Guide

Goat Rock on the Sonoma Coast

Sonoma County, California, is famous for so many things that it’s hard to keep them all straight. Of course, we’re probably most famous for our vineyards and the amazing wines we produce — wines that win gold medals in competitions all around the world.

If you’re a movie fan, you’d probably say that Sonoma County is famous because great movies have been made here since the days of the silents. Just two of the famous movies filmed here are: The Birds (1963, directed by Alfred Hitchcock) and American Graffiti (1973, directed by George Lucas).

If you’re into organic produce and sustainable farming — well, you know that Sonoma County has been paving the way in those areas for years. There are dozens of thriving farmers’ markets in Sonoma County, each selling the freshest, most beautiful produce you can find anywhere.

What with our mountains, forests, rivers, valleys, meadows, and 55 miles of gorgeous Pacific Ocean coastline, we’re famous for outdoor beauty. And because so much of the county’s beauty is protected by land trusts, nature preserves, and regional and state parks, we’re also famous for our boundless opportunities for outdoor adventure.

And we’re famous for our fabulous cuisine, casual style of life, charming towns, friendly people, fascinating history …

Like we said at the beginning, it’s hard to keep straight all the ways in which Sonoma County is famous. Maybe this handy A-Z list will help:
