Countdown to Taste of Sonoma 2017
Considered one of the country’s top wine and food festivals, the Taste of Sonoma will be held at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Santa Rosa on Labor Day Weekend for another installment of what has undoubtedly become the most important annual celebration of the wines of Sonoma County.
So, you love Sonoma County and perhaps you even love wines from the many distinctive wine regions of Sonoma County, but how well do you really know Sonoma County? Can you honestly say that you’ve tasted its heart? That you’ve savored its essence?
If you cannot answer any one of these questions in the affirmative, there is one surefire way to guarantee that you will be able to do so in the future — attend Taste of Sonoma, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. The weekend will also include Winemaker Lunches and Winemaker Dinners on Friday, Sept. 1, and Winemaker BBQs on Sunday, Sept. 3.
During Saturday's Taste of Sonoma event, patrons and wine and culinary enthusiasts are given the proverbial keys to the kingdom vis-à-vis an extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in Wine Country culture. Taste incomparable wines and locally-grown, gourmet dishes; meet passionate vintners and growers; and experience the welcoming community spirit of the Sonoma County wine region, all in one single series of events.
“Taste of Sonoma is the ideal Labor Day Weekend adventure and a ‘must’ for wine and food lovers who want to indulge in Sonoma County’s finest wines and artisan food,” said Jean Arnold Sessions, executive director of Sonoma County Vintners, which sponsors the Taste of Sonoma. “The dynamic event … will give guests special access to the abundance of Sonoma County’s famed wineries and culinary artists.”
One such avenue of special Taste of Sonoma access comes courtesy of the dozens of wineries hosting exquisite lunches in dazzling settings, where guests can get up close and personal with the winemakers that create their favorite Sonoma vintages.
Meanwhile, local chefs (or the winery’s own chef) use Sonoma County’s bounty of seasonal produce to create impeccable pairings for the wines. More than 200 wineries will share unique varietals from their acclaimed collections, and approximately 60 local top chefs will feature mouthwatering bites, ensuring that event patrons leave the weekend with a real sense of not only the taste but the spirit of Sonoma as well.
In addition, Taste of Sonoma’s itinerary of activities includes an all-day Grand Tasting event showcasing Sonoma County’s impeccable wines and foods; optional afternoon Sommelier Tours, in which nationally acclaimed sommeliers lead wine enthusiasts on 30-minute guided tastings; Wine Talk Seminars, offering informative, lively, panel discussions and focused tastings with renowned Sonoma County winemakers; and a blind tasting challenge designed to test guests’ knowledge of Sonoma County wines. How fun and informative is that?
Finally, in conjunction with Taste of Sonoma, a second event, the Sonoma County Wine Auction, the county’s leading annual charitable wine auction, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at the La Crema Estate at Saralee’s Vineyard. At this auction, guests can bid on an array of luxurious and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, while sipping spectacular wines, dining on dishes expertly crafted from Sonoma County’s freshest ingredients, and simultaneously supporting a number of Sonoma County charitable organizations.
