leslie-curchack_photography_sonoma-county-artPresented by Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Art Trails is an autumn tradition in Sonoma County. It’s the county’s largest open studios event, with art studios located from Bodega Bay to Sonoma; and from Petaluma to Geyserville.

This is an outstanding opportunity to see where and how art is created, and it’s also an excellent time to buy art directly from the artists for holiday gifts, or to add to your own collection.

A stringent jurying process ensures high quality and a wide variety of styles and mediums to choose from, including painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, woodworking, photography, pottery, jewelry, fiber, and glass art. There will be free demonstrations throughout the weekends, allowing you the opportunity to talk with the artists, and to observe and learn about traditional and experimental materials and techniques.

With so much to select from, the best way to start is by going to Sebastopol Center for the Arts to see the preview exhibition, which displays one piece by each of the 141 participating artists.

You can also pick up one of the beautiful and informative Art Trails Collector’s Guide catalogs to chart your own self-guided tour, or you can download it online. In addition, there are several mini preview exhibitions in various locations in the county.

Take a drive through the beautiful Sonoma County countryside and follow the blue Art Trails signs to find well-marked open studios, and discover artwork made by local talented artists — who welcome you into their creative spaces to see their best work.

Sonoma County Art Trails Open Studios 2017 takes place on two weekends, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15, and Oct. 21-22. The studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call Sebastopol Center for the Arts at 707-829-4797, or go to www.SonomaCountyArtTrails.org
