A Look at The New 3 Alarm Grill in Guerneville

It’s just what the western Sonoma County town of Guerneville needed: “big weenies, and lots of beef.” That is according to Big Bottom Market owner Michael Volpatt, as he describes the appeal of his new neighbor, 3 Alarm Grill, opened next door to his market and café on Main Street. And who can argue, when those weenies are the classic Chicago dog, and the beef is Italian beef sandwiches?

We can thank longtime Guerneville vacation homeowners and San Francisco Police Department members Chuck Limbert and John Stephens for the good food. Limbert recently retired, and decided the best way to get his favorite Midwestern comfort food was to make it himself.

Since he and Stephens are on the Russian River Fire Board, he went with a black, white and red theme, with antique firehouse memorabilia and artifacts, including poles and 33-foot vintage fireman’s ladder that was salvaged from the San Francisco Fire Department’s truck No. 8, circa 1903.

He puts tender loving care into his cuisine, like the top round of beef that is seasoned, slow roasted for four hours and then sliced thin to-order. The dogs are premium, too, as Vienna sausages with natural sheep casing that “snaps” when bitten, and the French fries are hand cut and seasoned with smoked salt and herbs.

Here’s the menu:

Italian Beef Sandwich, dry, wet or messy with sweet and spicy peppers, $9
Philly Cheese Sandwich, beef or chicken, $9
Classic Chicago dog, yellow mustard, onions, green relish, sport peppers, tomato wedges dill pickle and celery salt on a steamed poppy seed bun, $9
Spicy Polish dog, $7
Vienna dog, $6
Chili dog, $9
Grilled cheese, $8
*All of above include fries*
3 Alarm chili, $4/$8
Basket o’ fries, $5
Chili cheese fries, $8
Homemade soup, $3/$5
Frickles, $5

Beer & Wine
As the grill gets up and running, Limbert plans to expand offerings, too, such as a just-added ground beef patty with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and special sauce on a hot dog bun.
