Ooh La Loft, C’est Chic!
My dedication to Petaluma’s Ooh La Loft boutique started a few Christmases ago. With one week until go-time, I still needed a present for my sister, whose favorite gifts are always pretty, girly, and wearable.
You’d think such specific parameters would make it easier to shop for her. But here’s the part where I tell you that my sister works in fashion design. Professionally. In Manhattan. Where do you shop to augment a wardrobe from SoHo and Fifth Avenue?
Luckily, one day I stumbled upon Ooh La Loft, and they made it easy. Before I knew it, the store clerk was pulling vintage earrings from display cases, gift-wrapping lace blouses, and piling the armloads of dresses, jackets, and shirts I’d grabbed for myself into a fitting room. I left that day with a slam-dunk Christmas present for sis, a chic outfit for myself, and a new go-to stop for easy glamour.
Ooh La Loft specializes in clothing for women who are “feminine but edgy, free-spirited but dainty, stylish but laid-back,” say owners (and twin sisters) Cristina and Michelle Wilson.
The store’s absolutely packed with beautiful clothes in soft colors, fun prints, and flowing cuts from the likes of BB Dakota, Lovestitch, Vince Camuto, and Lush. Up front you’ll find denim, handbags, shoes, dresses, skirts, and tops that could easily take you from beach to vineyard to cocktails. Not to mention delicate earrings, chunky necklaces, and funky accessories displayed like cherries on a tree. Head to the back of the store for high-quality second-hand items, from traded-in jeans to one-of-a-kind vintage finds.
For a real Sonoma County score, pick up something from Olympia Elizabeth, the modern-meets-vintage clothing line the Wilson sisters design themselves.
Can’t make it to Petaluma? Not to worry: the sisters have recently opened up a second location of Ooh La Loft in the Santa Rosa Plaza. Which is lucky for me: My sister’s birthday’s coming up.
