Romantic Ideas for Valentine’s Day
Okay, so the Beatles may have pretty much gotten it right when they wrote the lyrics to the now classic song “All You Need Is Love”, but Valentine’s Day is the one day of the year when ‘love’ needs a little boost from its partner in crime romance. Figuring out what to do for and with the special someone in your life on Valentine’s Day has become as big an annual conundrum as where to spend New Year’s Eve. Fortunately Sonoma is not only innately romantic, this year, as in years past, the county has a spate of events on tap that will do the Feast of Saint Valentine proud (and simultaneously secure your place outside the doghouse with your beloved for another year).
Why not make this Valentine’s Day a little spicier than normal with a healthy dose of burlesque, courtesy of “My Vintage Valentine” in the Dessert Theatre of The Rocks Bar and Lounge in Petaluma? The evening promises not only seven solo debuts from Feral Fox's Beginners Burlesque Dance Class and a bonus group act, but also comedy, magic acts and a dessert buffet. It could undoubtedly be one of the sexiest evenings in the county. For more details, click here.
If burlesque sounds a little too spicy for your tastes, why not try a Valentine's Day cooking class celebrating the flavors of Argentina? Chefs Ciara Meaney and Christopher Greenwald, a couple themselves, are cooking up a romantic menu inspired by their travels to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and they’re inviting a few select guests to cook with them at Relish Culinary Adventures in Healdsburg. The class will be followed by an elegant meal showcasing the evening’s creations and paired with a hand-picked selection of wines. Now that is a meal that sounds spicy for a whole different reason does it not?
Still not sold? How about a Valentine’s Day Pop Up at Suite D in Sonoma complete with a live Flute & Harp Duo? The event also boasts a delectable tasting menu paired with bubbles set to include: Duck Liver Mousse, Crostini Breathless, NV Brut, North Coast Trio of Oysters on the Half Shell, Roederer Estate, NV Brut, Anderson Valley Poached Egg with Smoked Salmon & Truffles, Hugo, 2012 Sparkling Rosé, Austria Asparagus & Avocado Salad Domaine Carneros, 2009 Brut, Carneros Lobster Mac & Cheese Gloria Ferrer, 2005 Brut Royal Cuvée, Carneros Sea Scallops, Early Spring Vegetable Ragout, Ginger Beurre Blanc J Vineyards NV Cuvée 20, Russian River Valley Pan Seared Duck Breast, Carrot Puree, Roasted Chestnuts Schramsberg, 2008 Brut Rosé, and North Coast Coeur a la Creme Chocolate Truffles. Or perhaps an evening with Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning artist (and Sonoma County resident) Kitaro debuting his first-ever Eastern European Tour and extensive live production with a full orchestra at Weill Hall, Green Music Center is more your idea of a sweetheart of a treat? Finally, if the theatre sets off romantic sparks for you and yours, a new production of Irving Berlin’s classic Broadway Musical "Annie Get Your Gun" debuts on Valentine’s Day courtesy of the Spreckels Performing Arts Company and directed by Sheri Lee Miller. For more information, click here.
