Sonoma County's love affair with its native Dungeness crab
What could be a more perfect expression of Sonoma's County's great love affair with its native Dungeness Crab - that sweet meat delicacy that lives in the cold waters off the coast of Sonoma County - than the "crabbiest crab cake" you've ever laid a fork into.
Dungeness crab is native to the Northern coast found from Sonoma County, Oregon and Washington... It is renowned for its delicate sweet flavors, natural plump flakiness and ease of preparation. Whether you start by boiling fresh caught or deconstructing from fresh cooked, you will find this ingredient easy to work with and full of crowd appeal.
During the short season beginning November 1 crab fishing begins off the Sonoma Coast and moves steadily north. You can find fresh caught in the most markets or journey down to Bodega Bay and get them fresh off the boat.
For a special treat this Valentine's Day, pair a Dungeness crab cake with 2008 Hart's Desire Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Ritchie Vineyard. This crab cake is long on flavor and short on "fillers". The sweetness of the meat is complimented with the addition of green and red pepper, dill, and green onion. It balances the crisp acidic zip of the wine which plays on the tongue "like a fat raindrop".
Enjoy your Valentine's Day with your Hart's Desire, a touch of crab and your special someone.

Tasty new ways to explore Sonoma County
Is there a tastier way to explore Sonoma County than through its restaurants? I think not. People don't live by bread alone, but sample some of the breads at our bakeries and you'll wonder, "Why not."
If bread is just your starter course, make sure you try out some of these new restaurants or find a great deal at one of your favorites.
