Deadlines and Opportunities
Advertising Opportunity: Horizon Airlines Magazine Co-op Deadline Feb. 22
Horizon Airlines Magazine's monthly advertising page, entitled "Touring the Wine Country," is now available to partners of Sonoma County Tourism Bureau for individual ads. SCTB would like to have this page in the April issue, and deadline for artwork is Feb. 22. We'll then publish the page for as many months as people would like to participate. We'll do a minimum of six months, but can go up to a year.
Group rate for each one-sixth page spot will only cost $650 a month. You can purchase one-third page ad for only $1,200. The more participants we have, the better presence we all have in the magazine, and perhaps we can expand it to a two-page spread!
Contact Yael Kallin, our advertising rep, (206) 441-5871, ext. 27. She can answer any questions and book space.
SCTB to Take Seattle by Storm - A Wine Storm!
Partnering with SCTB is a great way to showcase your fabulous meeting venues and wineries in this important market. The venue will serve the wines and your representative will have an opportunity to educate clients about your wines and group event space. Each participating partner will have an individual cocktail table for materials. And for wineries, if you donate wine, we'll waive the partnership fee. Seattle 2010 Partner Invitation [pdf]
Also, you're invited to join us in sponsoring the Meeting Professionals International, Washington State Chapter's luncheon earlier that day. Please contact Paula Higgins at phiggins@sonomacounty.com or directly at (707) 522-5808 for more information. Deadline to register for this opportunity is March 1.
Off-season Campaign Encourages Visitors to Check In, Dine Out
SCTB launched a winter-spring campaign to bring visitors to Sonoma County and get them to not only spend the night, but to also visit local restaurants.
Called Check In, Dine Out, the program was funded with Business Improvement Area revenues that were higher than forecasted in the 2009 budget. The SCTB board of directors voted to reinvest those dollars in promoting BIA lodging properties, and encourage these businesses to partner with local restaurants in the BIA to further promote visitation.
The campaign is being advertised in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento areas via print, online, radio and transit ads. Potential travelers are encouraged to see submitted specials on the dedicated specials page, www.sonomacounty.com/checkin.
BIA lodging partners who would like to submit specials for the campaign are encouraged to do so at www.sonomacounty.com/content/stay-dine. Please remember that specials must include a dining element.
Statewide Press Releases Slated
California Travel and Tourism Commission will be sending statewide press releases to national and international media outlets. If you want to be included in SCTB's submission for the following releases, please send your information to Tina Luster, tluster@sonomacounty.com, by March 8.
Entertainment/Nightlife: Fun scenes and hip local spots: pubs, funky bowling alleys, music clubs.
Green California: Organic producers, environmentally-friendly lodging, green wineries and attractions.
Family fun: Good places and activities for the entire family.
Sonoma County's Tastiest Week Ever!
Next week will make your mouth water: Sonoma County's first-ever Restaurant Week (www.sonomacountyrestaurantweek.org) gets under way. More than 80 wine country restaurants will offer three-course, prix-fixe dinners for $19, $29, or $39 for one week only, Feb. 22-28.
Tickets or passes are not needed for Sonoma County Restaurant Week. Just choose your restaurant at www.sonomacountyrestaurantweek.org and dine out. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Hmmmm. Some 80 restaurants in seven days; that'll be more than 11 restaurants a day. I'm not sure I'll hit that magic number, but you have to have a goal, right?
Happiest place in California? Sonoma County!
A recent study confirmed what many of us already know: Sonoma County residents are the happiest people in California; and the fifth happiest in the U.S.
Gallup surveyed 753 people in Sonoma County. The survey consisted of 42 questions that indexed results into five categories: life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behavior, and basic access to things such as clean water, safe neighborhoods, fruits and vegetables, and health care.
