In this talk, Linda Connor will discuss how the female nude is explored and portrayed differently by men and women photographers and will take a feminist frolic through the history of female nudes in photography in terms of cultural stereotypes and representation by women in the field. Linda Connor is a photographer, professor of photography at the San Francisco Art Institute, and publisher of a compendium of her work, Odyssey: The Photographs of Linda Connor (2008), and more of her works appearing in a number of other monographs: On the Music of the Spheres, Luminance, Odds n Ends, and Spiritual Journey. In 2002, she founded PhotoAlliance, a bay area non-profit organization dedicated to the understanding, appreciation and creation of contemporary photography, and currently serves as its president. A recipient of, among other awards, National Endowment for the Arts grants and a Guggenheim fellowship, Connor was the given the Society of Photographic Education’s Honored Educator Award in 2005.
