Whether it be the art, the dining, the people, or the lodging, there's something around every corner that makes Sonoma County unique. With all of the different climates, you can choose to stay in all types of places, moving on to a spot with a completely different vibe than the previous one.
Looking for tranquil? Then head to the forests and redwoods in a luxury airstream.
Looking for gorgeous? Catch a sunset on the coast in a tipi.
Hoping for downright unique? A Sonoma Serengeti might be in your future. Here are 10 truly unique places to stay in Sonoma County:
Safari West, Santa Rosa
I bet you'd never guess theres a hidden "Sonoma Serengeti" just minutes outside the city of Santa Rosa. This 400-acre wildlife reserve is home to giraffes, cheetahs, lemurs, zebras...you name it. But one of the most unique things about Safari West is that you can stay there! Nestled right next to the giraffes, you can enjoy a stay in their safari "glamping" tent imported from Africa (seriously), that includes your own deck overlooking the Sonoma Serengeti.

Found under soaring redwoods in a gorgeous modern 'compound' is Autocamp, one of the newest glamping sites in Sonoma County. During your time there you can either stay in an airstream or luxury tent, when you can sit back, listen to the sound of the swaying redwoods and enjoy a glass of Sonoma Coast pinot from their wine cabinet. They also have individual firepits, and smores kits to enjoy. Yum!
Isis Oasis, Geyserville
The artist retreat center known as the Isis Oasis is in the heart of Alexander Valley and includes a multitude of extremely unique lodging properties - two being the Hobbit Hut and Gingerbread House below. The Oasis is dedicated to the ancient Egyptian Goddess "Isis", otherwise known as Mother Earth. You can see all of the Isis Oasis listings on Airbnb.

"Rather than becoming involved with interpretations, images, feelings or sensations, we can remain with the energy in its pure form...like a raindrop falling into the ocean." pp 68-9 Hidden Mind of Freedom. Spending a few days here @ratna_ling_retreat_center thinking about the practice. Tonight at mediation a teacher asked us to consider instances in which our sense of self softened and we felt connected to a larger whole. Things being what they are I wasn't the first in the room to bring up running—but I thought about the spectrum of it: how running a big city marathon can make you feel jacked in to all the beautiful savage and severe urban energy of the place until you're part of its very pulse, and on the other end, how running in a forest (or in the desert or along the ocean) you'll sometimes forget your own breathing and instead feel as if the forest is breathing you. #runningculture
