Agriculture Restaurant: Dinner Made Local

Dawn Ranch Lodge has gone through many changes over the last decade, but its status as a peaceful retreat and escapist hideaway remains steadfastly intact. One of the property's current highlights, rustic bungalows and manicured lawns aside, is its centerpiece Agriculture Restaurant & Bar.

Because of its perch and the surrounding trees, the restaurant has always reminded me a bit of an elegant treehouse with seriously romantic overtones. In keeping with its location and its neighbors, there is nothing particularly fussy about the atmosphere of the restaurant which is, by all accounts, downright Northern California casual. In fact, each time I've walked into the place I've experienced a huge sense of familiarity among the patrons which lends itself to the idea that the restaurant is a local favorite (which is never a particularly bad thing).

When the weather is nice, the outdoor patio is full of buzz, but the bar and the main dining room are romantically cozy rooms that also serve as an equally enticing backdrop for Agriculture's hearty fare. Executive Chef Fernando Plazola's menu which focuses on locally sourced organic product, pairs nicely with Agriculture's full service bar offerings of local beer, wine, and speciality cocktails to offer a total dining experience that has made it a Russian River favorite.

Notable menu items include the Niman Ranch grass fed beef Meatballs with heirloom tomato sauce, the Pulled Pork Ravioli with Granny Smith apples, toasted almonds, arugula and brown butter sauce and Mary's Roasted Chicken

Breast & Thigh combo with shallots, pomme frites and pan au jus.
