Bear Republic Opened New Brewpub in Rohnert Park
It’s been a year in the making, but the new Bear Republic Brewing Co. is finally up and running in Rohnert Park. And from day one, the crowds have been going wild for this combination of brewpub, restaurant, beer garden and play space overlooking Roberts Lake.
The spot joins the original Bear Republic Brewing Co. in Healdsburg, which is famous partly for its beers, and partly because it is so continually packed, with people standing in line for its handcrafted suds.
Taking over the space that was formerly Latitude Island Grill, the new, much bigger Bear also joins Bear Republic’s new production facility in Cloverdale.
As guests enter the cavernous space, they are greeted with a glassed-in kitchen, a gleaming steel barrel room, and several bars serving beer, wine and spirits. Some of the bars open to the back deck, too.
With nearly two dozen beers on tap, it’s an adventure tasting through them all. The famous Racer IPA series beckon, as do brews like Demolition Derby Barrel-Aged Hoppy Stock Ale, and Tartare Rouge Sour American Wild Red Ale.
For its grand opening party in September, the Bear Republic staff pulled out the stops and offered beer tastings, but also specialty cocktails, plus a full buffet.
Just a few of the food specialties include Deviled eggs capped in Dijon mustard, horseradish and smoked paprika; pizza smothered in housemade Italian sausage, tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella, roasted bell peppers, red onion, button mushrooms and Parmesan; and slow-smoked pork shoulder pulled and dressed in the Bear’s Peter Brown BBQ sauce with Cajun coleslaw and spicy Sonoma Brinery pickles on a brioche bun.
The kitchen also sent out excellent mac ‘n’ cheese folded with Fontina-Gruyere béchamel sauce and topped in herbed breadcrumbs, plus crisp-skinned grilled bratwurst made with Racer 5 IPA.
Some guests danced to live music – including a strolling marching band – while others played shuffleboard, Jenga, cornhole, connect four, and foosball. There’s a kids play area, too, for a family friendly mood.
The opening is a bit of history in the making, by the way. Bear Republic’s owner, the Norgrove family, has been a part of Sonoma County for five generations, and debuted their original brewery more than 20 years ago.
