Choose Kunde Hill House for an Orchestrated Sonoma County Wedding
Sometimes, for a magical Sonoma County wedding, it pays to go big and choose a location owned by professionals that are as much experts in tourism and private events, as they are in a couple’s most special day.
The reward: a variety of spaces, an array of custom options, and the convenience of full-time wedding planners to pull it all together.
Kunde Family Estate is one of Sonoma County’s best-known wineries for weddings, and for good reason. With 1,850 pristine acres to play with in Kenwood, the estate offers an array of locations for couples to seal their love, including the Dunfillan Ruins, Boot Hill, the Aging Caves, Olive Hill, and the Hill House.
While choosing a spot among them invite options can be challenging, many couples gravitate toward the Hill House, a craftsman-styled abode that was the original home to Kinney (the namesake for Kinneybrook ranch) and Henry Hawes, who ran a renowned herd of registered Hereford cattle on the flats and hills of the property in the early 1900s.
The high-elevation site is the first draw, featuring breathtaking views of Sonoma Valley and the Mayacamas Mountain range, and anchored by a ceremony lawn framed by Italian Cypress trees and vineyards.
Yet just as important is the home itself, which offers year-round availability in all kinds of weather, and those views captured by picture windows.
The property is self-contained, meaning a wedding party has everything at its fingertips for pre-ceremony preparation, the vows, and the reception. The bride and her attendants can get ready in the luxurious bridal suite done in creams, gold and antiques, the union can be officiated outdoors, in a private dining room, or a wood paneled living room with fireplace, and the reception can be held on the lawns or in the grand banquet room with gleaming wood floors.
As the fabled Valley of the Moon unfolds below, up to 60 guests can sample a variety of Kunde wines, enjoy a catered dinner, then dance to live or DJ music. The wedding couple can join in the fun, too, since the winery’s event planners manage the details, working with a list of preferred vendors including photographers, officiants, music, flowers, transportation, and more.
Any wedding destination, no matter how perfect, requires something else, too: flexibility. All couples crave a signature statement, and some choose to blend several locations together. A ceremony might take place in the Kunde caves, for example, with the reception following in the Hill House. The event coordinator will offer a tour of the entire property, to help decide the dream.
After the event, guests don’t have to travel far for Wine Country chic accommodations. A benefit of Kunde’s expansive wedding opportunities is that it offers preferred partnership with area lodging, too.
Guests can browse among larger resorts such as the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, Hilton Sonoma Wine Country, or Hyatt Vineyard Creek. Or, they might prefer more boutique arrangements, like the Gaige House (gaige.com) or Kenwood Inn & Spa.
Whatever the choice, arrangements are as simple as asking the event coordinator.
