Consignment Shopping with Sisters in Sonoma
Sure, it’s a nice way to honor owner Chris Johnson’s own three sisters. But it’s also a very befitting way to describe the relationship Johnson sees between the women who work and shop in her second-hand store.
“Our tagline is, ‘Sisters don’t let sisters pay retail,’” Johnson said. “We all want to help each other find beautiful things and feel good about ourselves without breaking the bank.”
It may sound like a simple philosophy, but when Johnson opened the store in 2007, it was a novel concept in a town known for its luxurious, if laid-back, style.
“I wanted people to have another choice for shopping here besides the pricey boutiques, which have a lot of beautiful things, but not necessarily at prices everyone wants to pay,” Johnson explained.
Thanks to Sisters, locals and visitors to Sonoma alike now have access to high-quality second-hand clothing, from Sonoma-casual to night-on-the-town fabulous, no matter what their budget.
Most importantly, though, Johnson said, she wants people to have fun at Sisters. The store hosts shopping parties (bring in five friends, listen to music, munch on snacks, and get a storewide discount), sends out birthday coupons to regulars, and encourages everyone who comes in to leave their troubles at the door.
“I just want everyone who comes in here and shops to leave here feeling good, having had fun, and having found something they’re really happy with,” Johnson said.
