Honey & the Moon Coffee and Bakeshop Opens in Sonoma
Sonoma County bakers are especially popular in Wine Country, because they have direct access to such important ingredients as farm-fresh milk, eggs, butter, cream, field-fresh grains, and orchard-fresh fruits.
The new Honey & the Moon Coffee and Bakeshop in downtown Sonoma, for example, uses local and organic ingredients such as butter from Petaluma Creamery and fresh fruit from local farmers. Organic flours come from Central Milling in Petaluma, and organic eggs and milk from Clover Sonoma in Petaluma.
“We love using fresh ingredients. (Co-owner) James (Hahn) and I would only use ingredients in our places that we would use at home for our friends and family,” said co-owner Mila Chanamé
Formerly known as Crisp Bake Shop, the spot is a sister business to two popular cafés nearby: Sunflower Caffé and Breakaway Café. As with the cafés, managing partner Melissa Cameron wants to keep the experience neighborhood friendly, or as she said, “A truly homegrown Sonoma experience.”
The focus is on freshly baked classic pastries, butter croissants, seasonal scones and hand-crafted bread, plus signature sweets like rocky road cookies, blueberry crumble pies, and fun plays on cheesecake (yum, espresso and spun sugar-crowned crème brulee mini cakes). There are healthy options, too, like gluten free breads, vanilla vegan cupcakes, gluten-free/vegan muffins studded with brown sugar, currants, golden raisins and pecans, and a superfood maple crunch granola.
On the savory side, the display cases are filled with stratas, quiche, handpies, and milk-potato bun breakfast sandwiches sprinkled in sea salt.
Coffee is a must with pastries, and the brew is local, too. It comes from Acre Coffee in Petaluma. Or, go really indulgent and sip the matcha lattes made with Pacific Foods oat milk, banana, and chocolate chunks.
And lucky us. The pastries and breads are served at Sunflower Caffé and Breakaway Café, as well.
