June Sonoma County Music Picks
Bring on the heat! Sonoma County has quickly gone from rainy days and nights to 90-degree heat. Along with the Summer weather, perfect for picnicking at your favorite winery, outdoor festivals are everywhere in wine country this June.
Many Sonoma County cities even have their own outdoor concerts (make sure to get there early because lawn real estate can go quickly): Sonoma’s Tuesday Farmers Market with Live Music, Sebastopol’s Third Thursday Festivals at the Barlow, and Healdsburg’s Music on the Square all started in May. Windsor’s Summer Nights on the Green starts on Thursday, June 8th with Carolyn Wonderland. Cloverdale’s Friday Night Live starts on Friday, June 2nd with The Honey Island Swamp Band. Santa Rosa’s Julliard Park Concert Series starts on Sunday, June 25.

The 19th Annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival will host a medley of jazz styles, pulling together a wide variety of top tier mainstream, modern, traditional, Latin and blues performers. This year’s featured artists include the Heath Brothers, Bobby Hutcherson Tribute Band, Henry Butler, Joe Lovano Quartet, the Kenny Garrett Quintet, and The Django All-Stars (including two sons of founder Dorado Schmitt, Samson Schmitt & Amati Schmitt), among many others. The 8th Annual Huichica Music Festival is back at Gundlach Bundschu Winery, nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. This is an outdoor music festival with “great music, great food and great wine with no bad attitudes,” according to Jeff Bundschu, vintner and co-founder of Huichica, with his friend and musician Eric D. Johnson (of Fruit Bats), Britt Govea, and folkYEAH!. Live music in the vineyards headliners include Beachwood Sparks, Dean Wareham (of Luna), Cass McCombs, Robyn Hitchcock, along with Allah Las, Heron Oblivion, The Tyde, Joe Pug, Greg Loiacono, and many more. Celebrate the one-year anniversary of Rock Star University’s House Of Rock in Northwest Santa Rosa (across from Bottle Barn). Blue Oyster Cult has sold over 24 million records worldwide, including 7 million records in the United States alone. They were the second act to ever perform at Rock Star University, and it will definitely be a party. Details on their Facebook Page.
Santa Rosa’s third Annual Railroad Square Music Festival, run by the North Bay Hootenanny and Second Octave Entertainment, is going to be bigger than ever when it takes over the Railroad Square district on Sunday, June 11. The mission of the festival is to expand Sonoma County's local music community by creating an unforgettable music experience for visitors and locals alike. Hometown hero David Luning will headline along with Santa Rosa’s tone king John Courage, female lead powerhouses B and the Hive (formerly Boys and Girls), San Francisco’s multilingual multi-genre La Gente SF, rising alt pop stars Lungs and Limbs, Sharkmouth. swingin’ Dixie eight-piece Earles of Newtown, whiskey fueled boot stompers The Timothy O'Neil Band, Oakland-based soul trio Token Girl, and the cosmic marching rabble rousers Black Sheep Brass Band. Northern California's biggest country music festival presents three epic days and 14 top country artists. This year's headliners are Thomas Rhett, Darius Rucker, Justin Moore, and Randy Houser. Attendees will be greeted with western-themed attractions, a food court with the best country-inspired food, an array of craft beer, and wine from Kendall Jackson. Each year, the Sonoma-Marin Fair promotes and showcases California agriculture with a musical twist (and a famous Ugly Dog Competition). Concert headliners include Tower of Power with their own style of “Urban Soul Music”; country’s “Top New Female Artist in 2013” Jana Kramer; 80’s powerhouse Loverboy; and country star John Michael Montgomery. Heyyyy youuuu guyyyys… Corey Feldman is singing now, and on tour as part of his Angelic 2 Summer Tour. He will be coming to the Mystic, and promises to perform “a selection of greatest hits from both his previous solo albums, original music from his hit films, and also a few hit songs from his film soundtracks that were written and performed by other artists as well.” Anyone intrigued?
