La Dolce Vita Wine Lounge in Petaluma
The term “La Dolce Vita” [Translation: “The Sweet Life”] may have been born and nurtured in Italy, but the state of being that it describes is by no means exclusive to Italia or its citizens — it holds true in Sonoma County, as well.
Varying degrees of the “La Dolce Vita,” as popularized by the famous film of the same name from legendary director, Federico Fellini, have been found to exist in corners of the globe ranging from Malta and Montenegro to the Caribbean and, yes, even Northern California.
Though pockets of this thing known as La Dolce Vita are quite plentiful across the County, there is but one Sonoma County destination bold enough to claim the name as its own. La Dolce Vita Wine Bar in Petaluma is that place and, though it may not have an address on the Mediterranean or specialize in anything particularly Italian, it embodies and embraces the spirit of the moniker in more ways than one.
First, there’s the wine — the glorious, voluminous list of wines on offer at La Dolce Vita. Yes, of course, Petaluma is Wine Country, which means having a great wine list is de rigueur rather than exceptional.
However, La Dolce Vita Wine Bar not only carries a solid selection of local wines but also a wide assortment of wines from some of the most celebrated regions around the globe. From France and Italy to Greece, Germany, and New Zealand this little corner of oenophile heaven tucked away in downtown Petaluma extends an invitation to patrons to literally sample the world.
Best of all, because the owners of La Dolce Vita sample more than 1,000 wines per year, 90 percent of which are rejected, you can rest assured that wines that do make the final cut have indeed been curated.
And, better still, to ensure the widest breadth of experience, wines are available in customized flights of three-ounce pours that allow guests to try a greater variety of options in every sitting. Now if that doesn’t sound like the sweet life I don’t know what does.
Second, as a backdrop to all that magnificent wine, there are the classic films that play nightly in this quirky little hotspot. Bette Davis, Stewart Granger, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Olivia DeHavilland, Marlon Brando, and more, accompanied by several glasses of wine? Sign me up for that Wine Country adventure.
Finally, there’s the food. Think artisanal cheeses from around the world, salads, salumi, paninis, pizzas and, of course, desserts (dolce) all of which are meant to pair perfectly with the wine selection and you’ll get the drift of things at La Dolce Vita.
To be sure, there are a number of superlative wine lounges in Sonoma County, and, thanks to its moxie and uniqueness, La Dolce Vita Wine Lounge in Petaluma must necessarily be counted among them.
