Lake Sonoma Weddings Are Gracious, Natural and Effortless
Couples planning a wedding in Sonoma County may face an unusual challenge. With so many gorgeous landscapes spanning ocean to mountains with many a meadow and vineyard in between, where should they choose to get married?
Here’s another thought to throw into the mix. How about a lake? The Lake Sonoma Resort Area is just 10 minutes from Healdsburg, with 2,700 acres of glittering blue water, 50 miles of shoreline and numerous activities like boating, swimming, fishing, riding, hiking, camping, and hunting.
It’s also a great place for weddings, and particularly easy, with the services of Lake Sonoma Weddings. Founded by three friends — a wedding planner, an event director, and a restaurateur — the company arranges everything a couple could need, from the ceremony to waterfront reception banquets.
The views are endless, spanning the sparkling lake, its surrounding verdant trails, and its framework of mountains. After choosing your location, you simply choose a package, ranging from a ceremony and small reception, to a full-blown party with an officiant for the wedding ceremony and rehearsal, rose-petal aisle for the ceremony, votive candles and flowers on all guest tables, a DJ, and custom cake.
Either way, the lake is yours — there is always just one wedding per day, with capacity for 200 guests in a sit-down dinner, or 300 for a standing reception with highboy tables.
A couple may want the Cabernet Package, including the wedding and reception site overlooking Lake Sonoma, full wedding and dinner set-up with tables, chairs, white linens, formal place settings like dishes, glassware, silverware, linen napkins, a full banquet staff to serve, and bar set-up and bartender. Set up and take down is included, as is an onsite planner.
Then, it's time to choose the menu, which might begin with appetizers like chorizo-stuffed prawns wrapped in prosciutto with apricot-tequila sauce; smoked duck with Pinot Noir-braised onions on garlic toast; and crostini with watermelon, feta, and a balsamic reduction.
The next course can be deconstructed Caesar salad with sourdough kalamata olive batard bread and butter, followed by an entrée of New York steak with Korbel-brandied cremini mushrooms, double-baked potato with artichoke hearts, and pepper jack zucchini pancakes with feta.
There are no worries if it rains, either, since tent rental is available, and really, what’s more romantic than the pitter-patter of rain drops on the water?
There’s more, too. With the convenience of the wedding planner, you can arrange a multitude of options, such as showers, bridesmaids luncheons, rehearsal dinners, wine-tasting excursions, and certainly jaunts around the lake in rental boats.
Despite its bucolic setting and the solitude of nature, the lake is convenient to many top Sonoma County inns, as well. The country-quaint Geyserville Inn, the 1912 Craftsman-design Irish Rose Inn, and romantic, Victorian-style Madrona Manor Wine Country Inn are just minutes away.
