New from the girl & the fig: The Rhône Room

Nestled along a quiet stretch of Highway 12 in the town of Sonoma you'll find the newest tasting lounge: The Rhône Room.

Famed Sonoma County restaurateur Sondra Bernstein recently added The Rhône Room Wine Studio & Farm to her delectable portfolio. It’s Bernstein’s latest addition to the mini empire she built out of her the girl & the fig restaurant, fig café & winebar, the fig rig food truck, and catering and wine production businesses.

Nestled along a quiet stretch of Highway 12 in the town of Sonoma, The Rhône Room is a combination of wine tasting lounge, wine class space, and working farm that grows specialty produce to help supply Bernstein’s restaurants.

Naturally, the wine tasting experience highlights Bernstein’s own handcrafted girl & the fig label Rhônes, alongside others of her favorite, lesser known offerings from local Rhône producers.

That means guests can explore wines like Syrah and Viognier, alongside lesser-known varietals such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Counoise and Picpoul. The lounge settings vary, too, from an antique tasting bar with picture windows overlooking the culinary gardens, to oversized booths topped in colorful pillows, to outside seating on the edge of the garden.

Guests can also reserve the entire lounge and/or property to hold private events, from wine tasting parties to corporate gatherings.

rhone room girl fig sonoma Bernstein has long been a fan of the Rhône region of France. This past June, she was honored with the Rhône Rangers Lifetime Achievement Award as a thank you for championing the boutique wines for more than 20 years. In addition to serving the regional wines in her own restaurants, she has catered all of the Rangers’ winemaker dinners for the past two decades.

After a tasting, guests are encouraged to use their new knowledge of Rhône wines while enjoying dinner at the nearby the girl & the fig restaurant. For example, Bernstein suggests a bold Sryah, paired with her Sonoma Mountain beef burger topped in grilled onions and house-made pickles with frites, or a vegetarian smoked eggplant dish with broccoli rabe, oven-dried tomatoes, crispy polenta, and salsa verde.
