New Martini House in Healdsburg
After 23 years, even one of Wine Country’s most popular restaurants can use a refresh, and so now, the former country French Bistro Ralph in Healdsburg is Ralph's Martini House.
But yes, it’s still the same Ralph, as in owner Ralph Tingle. And the updated concept is a salute to the drinks menu that listed two, yes, only two, kinds of cocktails, including a Martini or a Manhattan.
Rather than a restaurant, this new baby as a bar/lounge with food and beverage table service. Now, a there is a complete offering of spirits, two beers on tap and wine selections.
It remains intimate, boasting just 13 tables framing an open kitchen. And the food retains Cal-French accents, but this time in small plates with global notes. Diners can nosh on fried oyster sliders, ahi tartare with Thai basil, steamed mussels, beef sliders, and duck confit egg rolls.
For larger bites, there is grilled cheese with pepper bacon on multigrain bread alongside heirloom tomato soup, short ribs with horseradish, pomegranate glazed sweetbreads, sautéed foie gras, tamales and chicken paillard.
Here’s a hint: grab an outdoor seat if you can. One of the highlights here is the excellent opportunity to people-watch over the Plaza.
