November 2018 Sonoma County Music Picks
As we move into the holiday season, we have a lot to be grateful for in Sonoma County. Harvest is over for local wineries, and the smell of pumpkin pie can be enjoyed close to any bakery. With events like the Wine and Food Affair in Northern Sonoma County and the 5th Annual Lighting of the Historic Sonoma Plaza in the town of Sonoma, there is something to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
Here is your Sonoma County guide to live music this November:
Sonoma Strong Celebrating Our Resilience Benefit Concert with Wonder Bread 5
Sunday, November 4
Even though we are just past the one-year-anniversary of the Wine Country fires in October 2017, there is still plenty to be done for families who are displaced from their homes. The Sonoma Strong Benefit Concert with Wonder Bread 5 joins the Santa Rosa community in celebrating its resilience. Beverage sales will benefit the Secret Santa Program and special table sales will benefit the Sonoma County Resilience Fund. Learn more online.
Wednesday, November 7
Straight up now tell me, who else is excited that the 80s legend Paula Abdul is coming to Santa Rosa?! The original American Idol judge will tour this fall and bring her dance moves and hits like “Opposites Attract” to the Luther Burbank Center. Grab your leg warmers, crimping iron, scrunchies, and tickets on their website.
Friday, November 9
Last fall, pianist Peter Serkin had to cancel his appearance in Weill Hall because of the Wine Country fires. Thankfully, he is back again, nearly one year after the originally scheduled concert. An artist of passion and integrity, Serkin is one of the most thoughtful and individualistic musicians appearing before the public today. Tickets available online.
Calmus Vocal Ensemble
Thursday, November 15
Calmus has become one of the most successful vocal groups in Germany. Shaped by the centuries-old tradition of great German boys' choirs, they are naturally at home in the vocal music of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic periods. With a large variety of music and a joy for performing, they feature folk songs from around the world, including works from Brazil, Denmark, Ecuador, England, Iceland, Ireland, Russia, Ukraine, and more. Grab your tickets to the show.
Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio
Friday, November 16
Legendary blues guitarist, songwriter, and singer, Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio brings a rootsy, spirited, and soulful performance to Healdsburg this fall. The trio features Bishop’s down-home delivery, deep blues picking, and slide guitar playfully meshing with Welsh’s piano and guitar licks and Jordan’s soul singing and propulsive cajón playing. Tickets available online.
T Sisters w/ Ben and Alex Morrison (of The Brothers Comatose)
Saturday, November 24
The T Sisters are a sister group based in Oakland, California. The trio is known for close harmonies, catchy melodies, and potent lyricism; the T Sisters’ sound represents a continuum of music: from roots to pop influences, moments of stunning a cappella to swells of groovy indie folk. Joining them onstage in Petaluma is Ben and Alex Morrison of The Brothers Comatose, who have been playing music together their whole lives. Find your tickets to the show on The Mystic’s website.
