A Private, Romantic Wedding at The Highlands Estate in Cloverdale
Many Sonoma County weddings celebrate the gorgeous outdoors, while others impress with rustic yet sophisticated barn settings that speak grandly of the Sonoma Wine Country. At The Highlands Estate in Cloverdale, it’s the best of both worlds, with a private, romantic feel, thanks to two new wedding sites recently opened.
Operating as a small, romantic B&B located amid the vineyards of the Yorkville Highlands Valley, the charming four-bedroom estate features an antique barn that the owners completely rebuilt, and also a hilltop meadow anchored by a huge, live oak tree.
Located on 21 rolling acres, the property is the dream of owners Gard and Whitney Cookson. The couple spent more than a year just dressing up the barn, to preserve rustic detail while adding modern conveniences like heating and air conditioning
And what a pretty place they’ve built. The Four Seasons Barn features large double barn doors, six wagon-wheel chandeliers, and 12 king farm-tables that were hand-crafted by the Cooksons. Seating easily accommodates 96 guests, with 12 wine barrels acting as tables for stand-up receptions.
Guests also can dine outdoors directly next to the barn, on a lawn area complete with a grand arbor framing a panoramic view.
On the practical side, the barn is fully ADA compliant, and includes restrooms, a bridal suite/changing room, and a catering and vendor prep room.
For more intimate wedding gatherings, the Oak Tree site beckons with outdoor space for up to 40 guests. Following the ceremony, guests can dine and dance poolside on the estate’s back deck under a starlit sky.
As an extra convenience and for guaranteed privacy, both wedding locations include a buy-out of all four rooms in the white Victorian Bed & Breakfast. Each room is appointed with in-suite bathrooms (some with jetted tubs), king or queen-sized beds, plush linens, and picture-perfect views of the vineyards and grazing horses nearby.
To keep everyone further entertained, the B&B also offers a billiard room, and a cinema theater decked out with stadium seating, surround-sound, and a 156-inch screen.
Plan to wake up hungry, too. Stays include homemade breakfast showcasing fruit from the estate orchard and vegetables from the on-site garden, as well as other locally sourced ingredients.
Should anyone desire a workout beyond hiking the gorgeous grounds, meanwhile, the Estate also boasts a newly renovated fitness room set with a treadmill, elliptical and Pilates machines, free weights, and yoga mats.
Here’s to many happy memories.
