Rosso Pizzeria group is opening Rosticceria in Santa Rosa

The beloved Rosso restaurants in Santa Rosa and Petaluma will soon welcome a baby sister, with the debut of Rosticceria planned for this spring in Santa Rosa.

If all goes well with construction, diners should be tucking into more wood-fired pizzas by mid-March or April, in the new store in an office park on Dutton Road just north of College Avenue.

And there’s more: The new café will offer breakfast, too, plus sweet treats like pastries and cookies.

Rosso Pizzeria chef-owner John Franchetti and co-owner Kevin Cronin have had a great couple of years, not only with their restaurants, but with booming catering business. They had outgrown their kitchen at their original restaurant in Creekside Center near downtown Santa Rosa. So this new space, spanning 4,900 square feet in the former Sassafrass restaurant location, will also serve as catering headquarters, including a dedicated pasta-making station, a wood-burning oven, gas-fired rotisseries and offices.

For everyday diners, the larger space means an enhanced menu. Breakfast will feature specialties like rotisserie pork hash, and breakfast toasts topped with soft poached egg, habanero chutney, radish and microgreens.

Lunch will bring porchetta sandwiches, a roast sirloin sandwich smothered in caramelized onion and carrots au jus, and focaccia toasts crowned in toppings like a combo of roast duck, orange, olives and mint, or sautéed oyster mushrooms, chile, ricotta, and mint.

A bar area will feature beer, wine, vegetable and fruit juices, and coffees, and customers can either kick back on the seating for about 60, chill on the front patio, or use a separate entrance for take-out.

Sweet lovers can rejoice, too, since for the first time, Rosso will offer dessert. The new site includes a bakery for new Rosso colleague Dominique Cortara, who long has sold her Dominique’s Sweets macarons, cakes, pies, and pate choux at North Bay farmers’ markets.

After the dust has settled, Franchetti and Cronin plan more for their venue, as well. Look for cheese-making classes, winemaker dinners, and private parties.
