Walking in a Winter WINEland

It's almost upon us and it's the most wonderful time of the year … well OK … maybe it's not the most wonderful time of the year but it is indeed a glorious time in Northern Sonoma County.

The annual occurrence to which I am referring is Winter WINEland, which will mark its 22nd anniversary on the weekend of Jan. 18 – 19, 2014.

During the upcoming edition of Winter WINEland expect more intimate interactions with more than 140 of the 190 member vintners that make up the Wine Road of Northern Sonoma County.

As in previous years, this fun weekend will offer patrons a chance to not only meet and mingle with winemakers, but also deliver a rare opportunity to taste limited production wines, new releases, and library wines while, in some cases, also enjoying special food parings and/or winery tours all in wintery wonder.

Explore the works of Sonoma County watercolor artist Popi Tyler along with Eye Candy Chocolates and a delicious hearty soup, provided by Awful Falafels Gabe Nahas at Santa Rosa's Desmond Wines. Sip Zin and enjoy hearty soup and grilled cheese 'sammies' with winter condiments by the fire at Dry Creek Vineyard Cellar in Healdsburg.

Savor Southern-style nibbles along with the award-winning 2009 Elevation Cabernet Sauvignon, among other notable selections, at Paradise Ridge Winery.

Explore old vine Zinfandels at Forestville's Wine Guerrilla or tuck into a sampling of three different Redwood Hills cheeses with three wines at Graton's Paul Mathew Tasting Room. The possibilities are as endless as the adventure.

And did I mention that every winery will have something on SALE for the event? Heavens be thanked!
