Since 1858, the Bundschu family has enjoyed the beauty of Rhinefarm and the exquisite character of its wines. Today, the tradition of great wine continues with good times and great people to match.

Come on over to spend a few hours getting to know the land, the wines, and the people that make Gundlach Bundschu unique. Just five minutes from the historic Sonoma Plaza, our location at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains along the Napa-Sonoma border is convenient for visitors on either side. We look forward to welcoming you on Rhinefarm and to the oldest family-owned winery in California…and the most fun.

Wine & Food Description: Gun Bun Underground
Although our underground wine cave wasn’t a harbor from Prohibition woes, its barrel-lined halls can tell some classic Bundschu stories. Jim Bundschu dug this cave (with the help of Gary the Gopher) in the 1990s after coveting the caves in France, and it has housed both our older and the newest vintages ever since. This underground cavern stays a naturally chilly temperature for the wines, but the dining room definitely adds cool factor. This seated cave wine tasting offers an exploration of five wines, paired with local cheeses and charcuterie. A wine educator will walk you through each selection and offer their informative insight on our wines and deep heritage. And, because wine is best when shared, this is a communal experience around a large table– you might make a friend or two. You’re welcome.

Heritage Reserve Experience
Join us for a Heritage Reserve Experience, our food and wine pairing featuring our Heritage and Reserve wines. You’ll experience some of our extremely small-production, limited releases that you can’t taste anywhere else on the property. The location is always a surprise — it could take place in the Bundschu family homestead that dates back to the 1920s or at a secret location on Rhinefarm. Wherever you enjoy your tasting, you’ll feel a part of the family’s heritage. Except the Bundchus didn’t have a private chef creating wine pairings for them back in the day.
