Pine Needle Basketmaking
Come spend a day at Western Hills Garden with Judith Thomas, an experienced teacher and skilled pine needle basketmaker.
Learn about the history of this beautiful art form and how to make your own small pine needle basket with a lid. You may also choose to decide to decorate the rim of your basket with beading.
This practice uses long pine needles which are coiled and then stitched with natural raffia or colored waxed linen. The long needle pines (Coulter and Jeffries) are native to climates that are more tropical than Northern California but they also grow well here if planted.
Snacks, drinks, and simple lunch (soup and salad) served. Bring your own if you prefer or have dietary restrictions
