Felted Rugs with Heidi Harris
Join West County Fiber Arts for a workshop the day before Mother’s Day!
In this hands-on workshop you will learn the process of making a felt rug: preparing the wool (picking and carding), layout, felting, fulling and trimming the surface to finish your creation, with 100% local wool. Using natural or colored roving, you may add color and texture to create a rug that will be the center of attention in any room. For this project you will use about one pound of wool and learn the techniques to create this very strong, warm, non-woven cloth that is created by matting, condensing and pressing the fibers. It is labor intensive, but you will love the end result. All materials are included, but you may bring any special yarns, locks, or roving of your choice to further embellish your rug.
Enjoy a potluck lunch, giving everyone time to socialize with the instructor and fellow students.
West County Fiber Arts is the studio of felt artist Heidi Harris, on a beautiful 1-acre property in rural Sonoma County, California. Classes will take place in a classroom area under a shade structure in the garden.
