Immediacy and Materiality, Recent Works by Corrine Haverinen
Local artist Corrine Haverinen’s solo show of recent paintings will be on display for the month of June at Backstreet Studios in the South of A Street (SOFA) arts district of downtown Santa Rosa.
Haverinen’s work was initially influenced by the Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock. She remembers being mesmerized by Pollock’s paintings, where flowing lines capture the chaos and order of nature. In the late 70s, she found that line work was her strong suit and began studying traditional Chinese and Japanese painting. Drawing on that inspiration, she started to experiment, painting with ink on traditional rice papers, sometimes called washi, or mulberry papers.
An artist’s reception will be held on Friday, June 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Exhibition: June 1 – 29, 2018 Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and by appointment.
