Redwood Arts present Miro Quartet
Redwood Arts is delighted to be able to bring back for their fourth appearance Miró Quartet, one of America’s most celebrated quartets. Come and hear them in an intimate setting for a breathtaking performance that can’t be duplicated in a large venue. Their program will include Schubert’s Quartet in E-flat Major, Janacek’s Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters”, and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in A minor.
Formed in 1995 and named for Surrealist Spanish artist Joan Miró, the quartet was awarded first prize at several national and international competitions including the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. Members of the Quartet have given master classes at universities and conservatories throughout the world, and since 2003, the Miró has served as the quartet-in-residence at the University of Texas at Austin and Ernest Butler School of Music. In 2005, the quartet became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant.
Miró recently released their ninth recording, an Emmy Award winning multimedia project titled Transcendence. A work with visual and audio elements, Transcendence encompasses philanthropy and documentary filmmaking and is centered around a performance of Franz Schubert’s Quartet in G major on rare Stradivarius instruments.
Tickets may be purchased through the RAC website or Brown Paper Tickets, at Handgoods in Occidental, and if available, at the concert.
