Santa Rosa Symphony - Ode to California
The Santa Rosa Symphony's beloved Music Director Bruno Ferrandis returns with a diverse program of contrasts with electric violin pioneer Tracy Silverman playing Pulitzer-winner John Adams' The Dharma at Big Sur, which Bruno says evokes images of the sea and the sea shore and "the shock of recognition. Like reaching the end of the continent and seeing the sea.
"Ode to California" also features the Sonoma State University Symphonic Chorus, conducted by Santa Rosa Symphony Choral Director Jenny Bent, and mezzo-soprano Jacalyn Kreitzer for Sergei Prokofiev's famed silent film score Alexandra Nevsky.
The program opens with Richard Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde. With his love for Mathilde Wesendonck, the wife of a wealthy banker, as his muse, Wagner musically depicted the medieval love story.
