El Gallo Negro debuts in Windsor
Extensively remodeled and with a new menu showcasing authentic dishes of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, the owners of the former El Farolito restaurant have reinvented it as El Gallo Negro in Windsor, in northern Sonoma County.
This family-friendly eatery includes a full bar, with a collection of mescal from the remote villages of Oaxaca; the purest spirits from the agave fields in the town of Tequila and its surroundings in the state of Jalisco; a curated selection of wines; and beers from Mexico and Sonoma County.
House specialties include Mole Oaxaqueño, with a choice of chicken or carnitas (pork) smothered with rich mole sauce made with more than 20 fresh ingredients; Barbacoa (slow-cooked beef with chile guajillo, garlic, and onions); and Molcajete (grilled steak, chicken, and giant prawns sautéed with onions, and served with guacamole, salsa fresca, and chipotle sauce). That’s in addition to the expected burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, nachos, and more.
