Occidental’s farmers market continues under new leadership
The tradition of offering the best of the area’s small farmers, delicious food producers, and handmade crafters at a weekly farmers market in downtown Occidental in western Sonoma County continues under the guidance of a new community group.
The new Occidental Community Farmers Market is open Fridays from 4 p.m. to dusk, from June to October, at the south end of downtown Occidental. It features great food, live music, and all things local.
After 17 years, the founders of the original Occidental Bohemian Farmers Market stepped down in April, cancelling the 2019 season due to the challenges presented by the highly popular gathering that, according to some in the community, outgrew its location and drew criticism for parking, safety, and other issues.
A group of business and community leaders formed a new board, and joined the nonprofit Sonoma County Certified Farmers’ Market Association, creating a new market from the ground up.
