Where to Get Vegan Pizza in Sonoma County

Il Fuoco Pizza in Sonoma

Everyone loves pizza, including vegans. But not every restaurant offers appealing plant-based options! We came up with the list below to help guide you to the best places to find vegan pizza in Sonoma County.

From wild mushroom and vegan bechamel sauce to eggplant “mozzarella” and vegan pepperoni or sausage, there’s something on this list that will tickle any plant-based eater’s tastebuds.

Acre Pizza, Sebastopol and Petaluma locations

Acre Pizza bakes up New York-style and Detroit-style pizzas using fresh, California-grown ingredients (including wheat grown in California) and old-world baking techniques such as fermenting dough for 72 hours before baking.

The popular local pizzeria offers three 100% vegan pizzas on their menu: The Detroit Vegan Vegetable (mushrooms, olives, tomato sauce, and vegan cheese), the Detroit Vegan Sausage (vegan sausage, fennel, red onion, and vegan cheese) and the Detroit Vegan Pepperoni (vegan pepperoni, tomato sauce, and vegan cheese). All three use Miyoko Creamery vegan cheeses.

Vegans can also order any pizza on the menu and make it vegan by requesting vegan cheese or meat substitutions.

Acre Pizza has two locations in Sonoma County: Petaluma and Sebastopol (in the Barlow). The pizzeria is open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.

Il Fuoco, Boyes/Sonoma

Opened in late 2021, Il Fuoco offers woodfired farm-to-pie art that incorporates ingredients from as many local sources as possible (from the purple potatoes and the mozzarella to the Petaluma-milled flour used for the crusts). The modern Italian pizzeria has also partnered up with Sonoma’s Miyoko’s Creamery to create drool-worthy vegan spins on their favorite pizzas, such as roasted eggplant and Margherita, making them one of the best gourmet spots in Sonoma County to enjoy vegan pies.

Il Fuoco is open Wednesday through Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. (closed Tuesdays).

MOD Pizza, Santa Rosa

While we normally recommend local restaurants over chains, MOD gets pretty high ratings from vegans in Sonoma County, thanks to their vegan-friendly build-your-own-pizza options.

MOD offers both a vegan pizza crust option as well as a plant-based cheese (from Daiya) and Italian sausage option. The restaurant’s red sauce is also vegan, and the chain offers a create-your-own-pizza option that includes as many toppings as you’d like for the one price, which is great for vegans who want to load up on as many veggies or other toppings as possible. MOD offers a large number of toppings (30+), from every kind of veggie you can think of to Jalapenos, pickled onions, fresh herbs, etc.

Any MOD pizza can be made vegan by opting for red sauce or olive oil as the base and adding vegan cheese and/or sausage. MOD’s regular and gluten-free crust options are both vegan, so there’s no need to select a special vegan option.

Slice of Life, Sebastopol

While Slice of Life is best known for its bowls, salads, smoothies, and other delectable vegetarian and plant-based menu items, the cafe also offers vegan pizza options. Try the Gluten Free Chloe Vegan pizza with tomato sauce, avocado, vegan pepperoni, garlic, and onions, or opt for a whole wheat vegan crust and substitute vegan pepperoni on any Slice of Life pizza.

Sonoma Pizza Company, Forestville

This newly opened pizzeria in Forestville specializes in wood-oven-fired pizzas and offers to make any pizza on their menu vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free. Plant-based pizza topping substitutes include Miyoko’s vegan mozzarella, Happy Little Plants pepperoni, and Beyond Meat sausage.

Wild Goat Bistro, Petaluma

Located inside the historic Petaluma Mill near downtown Petaluma, Wild Goat Bistro is a mecca for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diners. The restaurant offers a modified version of almost every dish/item on the menu, from vegan and gluten-free pizza crust and bread, to vegan cheese (from Miyoko’s Creamery). Wild Goat Bistro also offers a handful of creative and naturally plant-based vegetarian dishes, incorporating fresh, locally grown ingredients.

While everything at Wild Goat is delicious, their pizzas are definitely among the most popular and frequently ordered menu items, and their vegan pizzas are no exception.

Vegan diners can opt for Wild Goat’s vegan (and gluten-free) crust option and vegan mozzarella cheese substitution on any pizza off the menu. The bistro also always offers a special vegan pizza featuring fresh, seasonal produce or ingredients (mushrooms during mushroom season, heirloom tomatoes during tomato season, etc.).

Other Pizzerias that Offer Vegan Crust and Cheese Options, Upon Request:

  • Pizzaleah (Windsor)
  • Chicago’s Pizza With A Twist (Santa Rosa)
  • Gio’s Pizzeria (Santa Rosa)
