Caring for Your Fruit Trees: A Pruning Seminar

Join legendary Farm Advisor Paul Vossen for this comprehensive 3-hour workshop covering best practices for growing and maintaining a wide variety of fruit trees in your backyard orchard. You'll learn essential techniques for peaches, nectarines, pears, apples, plums, persimmon, apricots, citrus, figs, and olives. Topics include variety selection, rootstock selection where appropriate, mound planting, irrigation timing, organic fertilization, and pruning strategies. This class is designed specifically for backyard gardeners and hobby growers looking to cultivate healthier, more productive fruit trees.

The session will be held in our milling area, with portions taking place in the orchards if weather permits. Please dress in comfortable layers to accommodate changing conditions and wear closed-toe, non-slip footwear suitable for walking on uneven terrain. Coffee and tea will be provided throughout the event.

Paul Vossen is an Emeritus Extension Agent who retired from UC Davis in 2016 after 35 years of distinguished research and teaching. He holds an M.S. in Tree Crops Production and a Certificate in Olive Oil Production from Cordova, Spain. Passionate about helping farmers and home growers cultivate better fruit, Paul brings his extensive experience and wisdom to this enriching workshop, offering practical insights you can apply immediately in your own orchard.
