International Observe the Moon Night

Have you ever wondered whats really out there in the night sky or wished you could zoom in on cosmic marvels with expert guidance? Now you can!
Focus Nights at the Robert Ferguson Observatory offer small-group, interactive experiences led by knowledgeable astronomers. On Saturday, Oct. 5, join us for a special lunar edition in celebration of International Observe the Moon Night. The evening begins promptly at 7 p.m. with a guided presentation on our closest cosmic neighbor: the Moon. Youll learn about lunar lava flows, craters, rilles, scarps, swirls, and dark halos, plus the role the Moon plays in Earths tides, phases, eclipses, and more. Discover what scientists know about the Moon and the mysteries still waiting to be solved.
Following the presentation, weather permitting, you'll explore the night sky using RFOs three main telescopes: an eight-inch refractor, a 40-inch reflector, and a 20-inch RC CCD telescope. With attendance capped at 30, guests will enjoy ample time at each telescope and one-on-one interaction with expert docents.
Tickets are $50 for adults, $45 for seniors (62+) and students, and $40 for members. Price includes Sugarloaf Ridge State Park parking. Tickets are required and nonrefundable. In case of event cancellation due to low registration or poor weather, attendees will be notified 24 hours in advance and issued a full refund or option to reschedule.
