Izzy Hagerup’s new album System, released under her Prewn moniker, feels uncompromising because it was never meant for public consumption—“a private journal made public.” Across nine arresting songs, she navigates depression with a mix of humor, self-reflection, and raw honesty, creating a push-and-pull that feels distinctly her own. Following her 2023 debut Through The Window, System dives deeper into isolation and unease. Written and recorded अके "Alone" in late-night bedroom sessions, the album wrestles with guilt, shame, and societal pressure, capturing the disassociated, restless aftermath of emotional intensity. The songs emerged in fleeting bursts of inspiration, lending the album an urgent, imperfect quality Hagerup embraces. Tracks like “Dirty Dog” and “Only You” highlight both the album’s jagged experimentation and moments of fragile beauty—exploring everything from creative frustration to the confusion of first love. At its core, System is a document of discomfort and self-exploration. It doesn’t shy away from darkness, but moves through it with curiosity, ultimately revealing glimpses of meaning, humor, and resilience.
