Maple Magic: Fall Color Walk

Experience the brilliance of autumn at Sonoma Botanical Garden during Maple Magic, a guided fall color walk celebrating the Garden’s remarkable collection of more than 50 species of Asian maples. As the season shifts, the landscape transforms into a tapestry of fiery reds, glowing oranges and brilliant golds — a fleeting spectacle inspired by Japan’s momijigari (“maple leaf hunting”), a centuries-old tradition of visiting scenic places to admire the beauty of autumn foliage.

Many of the maples in the Garden’s collection are rarely grown commercially and are seldom seen by the public. In addition, 87% of the collection is wild-origin documented, making these trees an important resource for botanical study, conservation, and research.

Join us for a leisurely guided stroll through the Garden as we explore the beauty, diversity, and cultural significance of these extraordinary trees. Along the way, learn about the unique characteristics of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean maple species and cultivars, and discover why autumn is one of the most magical times to experience the Garden.

After the walk, continue your visit by exploring the Garden at your own pace and enjoying the peaceful beauty of the season.
