Tails & Trails

Celebrate National Walk Your Dog Month with your four-legged companion on a three-mile guided walk along historic trails through the Beauty Ranch and down to the Wolf House. These scenic routes offer a wonderful mix of natural beauty and fascinating history, with plenty of sights and scents to keep curious noses engaged along the way.

Dog walks feel especially at home here at Jack London State Historic Park. Jack London had a deep, lifelong connection to dogs, shaped by his time in the Klondike and reflected in some of his most famous works. That bond inspired “The Call of the Wild” and “White Fang,” stories that portray dogs not simply as pets, but as loyal companions, workers, and complex beings with emotional depth and strong ties to humans. Walking these trails together is a fitting way to honor that legacy.

This relaxed, community-focused walk for up to 15 dogs will include good sniffs, water breaks, and treat stops along the route.
Participating dogs must be other-dog-friendly, people-friendly, on a short leash, and able to resist bolting if a critter crosses the trail. Jack London State Historic Park is a wildlife sanctuary; therefore dogs are only allowed in designated historic areas including the Beauty Ranch area and on the trail to Wolf House but not on any other trails. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times and are not allowed inside the historic buildings. Service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.
