Walk on the Wild Side: The World of Crepuscular and Nocturnal Wildlife

Experience Jack London State Historic Park in a whole new way during Walk on the Wild Side, a guided evening hike that reveals the fascinating world of the park’s crepuscular and nocturnal wildlife.

As the sun begins to set and the landscape transforms, participants will take a moderate-paced hike along park trails, stopping periodically to learn about the animals that become more active as daylight fades. Along the way, a park naturalist will share insights into the behaviors, habitats, and adaptations of the wildlife that thrive during the evening hours.

This educational hike offers a unique opportunity to experience the park’s sights and sounds as day transitions to night, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the wildlife of Jack London State Historic Park.

This event includes an approximately 3.25-mile round-trip hike and is considered moderate in difficulty. This hike is recommended for participants ages 12 and older. All minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that pet dogs (non-service animals) are not permitted on backcountry trails in order to protect wildlife.
