Sonoma County Pays It Forward

While stories of good news may be hard to come by during this time, countless Sonoma County businesses and organizations are bringing positivity and good news to locals and beyond.  Distilleries, for example, have gotten innovative by developing their own in-house sanitizers that they’re donating. Others, meanwhile, have “pay it forward” programs. Below, discover a few of the heartening stories around Sonoma County.

Many distilleries across Sonoma County have been making hand sanitizers for weeks now. In Northern Sonoma County,

Many Sonoma County restaurants have created Pay It Forward programs. Family-owned Brixx Pizzeria Petaluma, for example, created a Pay It Forward program in which you can buy a gift card from them and they will donate it to someone on the frontlines as a “thank you” for their service.

Continuing with the pizza theme, Pizza Leah, a brand new Windsor restaurant, has been receiving donations from local businesses and people who pay for pizzas that they then make available to hospitality industry folks who are out of work.

In Healdsburg, Costeaux French Bakery created the Costeaux Knead Program, which supports the good works of the Redwood Empire Food Bank and Sonoma Family Meal. They have committed to making the first 2,500 loaves of bread and are now seeking others to help. For each $5 contribution for a loaf, they will match it. Contribute online at www.Costeaux.shop. Costeaux has set a goal of baking 20,000 loaves of bread a month to support these organizations.

In Rohnert Park, local catering company Sally Tomatoes provided free meals to hospitality workers on April 4, feeding countless people in the process. Additionally, they’re in their fifth week of local delivery service, where they’re offering meals, cocktails, beer and wine.

Wineries, too, are getting involved. With every 10 meals delivered, Kivelstadt Cellars, in Glen Ellen, is donating a free meal to a service industry worker that has recently found themselves out of work. In the Alexander Valley, the John Jordan Foundation, from John Jordan of Jordan Vineyards & Winery, has teamed with Sonoma Family Meal to help restaurants remain open by providing chef-made meals for those in need. They have a goal of raising $150,000. Other Sonoma County restaurants, like SingleThread, are also partnering with Sonoma Family Meal to provide meals for families in need.

Finally, Bloom Event Co. is sharing happiness with local hospitals by decorating their entries and pathways with chalk drawings and flowers that would have otherwise gone to waste. Point West Wholesale Flower Market and Neve Brothers are among the companies that have donated flowers.
