Wolf House Winter Nature Walk at Jack London State Historic Park
On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Wolf House Winter Nature Walk will explore how the cold season transforms and shapes familiar landscapes. How do plants and animals adapt to the cold? This 1.5 mile guided hike will include time observing and learning about little things often overlooked ferns, mosses, mushrooms, lichens, bird song, leaf buds, leaf litter, insects, and any other interesting signs of life, including signs of the upcoming spring growing season. The group will visit the ruins of the grand Wolf House, which burned 110 years ago. Since that time, plant life and critters have made their home on and around the ruins.
The hike will take place at 10 a.m. to noon. Hikers are advised to bring water, snacks, layered clothing, good hiking shoes, optional poles, and a hand lens or binoculars for close-up viewing. The hike will be canceled if it rains.
