For many of us, our cherished pets have a special place in our lives and even accompany us during our travels, adventures, and vacations. Thankfully, Sonoma County, California, is a pet-friendly destination with many places and spaces where your canine companions are welcome.

Whether you come for the day or relax and enjoy a long getaway, you can bring your pooch to all of these paw-sitively perfect places that welcome pets in Sonoma Wine Country.

Dog-Friendly Hotels

Check business websites to find requirements, applicable fees, and available perks, such as dog bowls or beds. 

  • AC Hotel by Marriott (Santa Rosa): This hotel is a satisfying blend of Spanish and European styles, complemented by the authentic urban vibe of Santa Rosa and its surroundings.
  • Casa Secoya (Monte Rio): This property is nestled in redwood groves, minutes away from the Russian River. Choose from 6 room types, including cabins. 
  • Dawn Ranch Resort (Guerneville): Dawn Ranch welcomes well-behaved dogs in dog-friendly cabins (one dog per reservation; fees apply).
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country (Rohnert Park): Dogs are welcome with a deposit per pup (up to two pets, each up to 50 pounds).
  • Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa (Sonoma): This iconic resort offers a luxurious stay with geothermal pools and beautifully landscaped grounds. Pets on a leash are welcome with a fee (maximum two animals per room), but not permitted in the pool or eating areas.
  • Flamingo Resort (Santa Rosa):  Pet-friendly rooms are available with non-refundable pet fees and advance arrangements.
  • Hotel Petaluma (Petaluma): All rooms are pet-friendly with a fee and restrictions. Please check in advance. 
  • Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country (Santa Rosa): Charming and spacious pet-friendly rooms are available for a fee with advance notice. Restrictions apply.
  • Olea Hotel (Glen Ellen): Pets are welcome in designated rooms at this serene, relaxing retreat for guests ages 13 and older. With fees and some restrictions, dogs enjoy a unique bed and a special welcome basket.
  • Oxford Suites Sonoma County (Rohnert Park): This pet-friendly, eco-friendly hotel includes 163 non-smoking executive suites and a restaurant. Fees and restrictions apply.
  • Sheraton Sonoma Wine Country (Petaluma): One dog weighing 70 pounds or less is welcome with a fee and some restrictions.
  • Russian River Getaways (Guerneville): Many of these vacation homes are dog-friendly and located along the scenic Sonoma Coast, where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.  
  • Russian River Vacation Homes (Guerneville): Dogs are welcome at most rentals, and some homes may make exceptions for other pets.
  • Wine Country to Coast Vacation Rentals (Guerneville): Pets are allowed in many of these gorgeous, well-appointed homes that are designated as pet-friendly.

Campgrounds/RV Parks

  • Wildhaven Sonoma Glamping (Healdsburg): Furry friends are welcome at this luxury glamping property with its own Russian River access. There’s plenty of room for outdoorsy fun. Check the website for fees and restrictions. 
  • Bodega Bay RV Park (Bodega Bay): This seaside RV park has a Pet Walk area where Fido can run free. Elsewhere, pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
  • Porto Bodega RV Park (Bodega Bay): Well-behaved dogs are allowed in this private campground, which includes a dog-walking area and a sportfishing center that allows dogs on the boats.
  • Casini Ranch Family Campground (Duncans Mills): Well-behaved dogs are welcome to this family-friendly destination, where you’ll find two off-leash dog areas for your pet.
  • River Bend Resort (Forestville): This private campground includes a dog-walking area and allows dogs in RV sites for a small, flat fee per stay. Some restrictions apply.
  • Ocean Cove Store and Campground (Jenner): Leashed dogs are allowed in this private campground for a minimal nightly fee.
  • Schoolhouse Canyon Campground (Guerneville): Dogs are welcome for a small nightly fee at this private campground. Restrictions apply.
  • Cloverdale Healdsburg Campground (Cloverdale): Most pets are welcome on a leash. Restrictions apply.
  • San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA Campground (Petaluma): This private campground offers dog-friendly Wine Country Lodges with a minimal fee and an off-leash dog park on-site. Some restrictions apply.
  • Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and Campground (Kenwood): Leashed and licensed dogs are allowed in the park but not on trails or service roads.
  • Austin Creek State Recreation Area and Campground (Guerneville): Leashed and licensed dogs are allowed to walk with owners on paved roads, but not in other areas.

As far as Sonoma County Regional Park Campgrounds, these county campgrounds welcome licensed and well-behaved dogs on leashes no more than 6 feet long: Doran Regional Park (Bodega Bay), Gualala Point Regional Park (The Sea Ranch), Spring Lake Regional Park (Santa Rosa), Stillwater Cove Regional Park (Jenner), and Westside Regional Park (Bodega Bay).

Pet-Friendly Parks

Monte Rio Community Beach (Monte Rio): Leashed and licensed dogs are allowed on the sandy beach (west of the bridge) at this Russian River beach.

California State Parks in Sonoma County: Dogs are permitted in most state parks but prohibited on most state beaches, trails, and buildings. Leashed and licensed dogs are allowed to walk with owners on select paved roads at these Sonoma County state parks: Austin Creek State Recreation Area(Guerneville), Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve (Guerneville), the Wolf House and Beauty Ranch trails at Jack London State Historic Park (Glen Ellen), and Sugarloaf Ridge State Park (Kenwood).

Sonoma County Regional Parks: The county welcomes licensed and well-behaved dogs on leashes no more than 6 feet long at these parks: Doran Regional Park (Bodega Bay), Forestville River Access(Forestville), Gualala Point Regional Park (The Sea Ranch), Hood Mountain Regional Park (Santa Rosa), Riverfront Regional Park (Healdsburg), Steelhead Beach (Forestville), Sunset Beach River Park (Forestville).

Pet-Friendly Shopping

  • The Barlow (Sebastopol): This dog-friendly outdoor hub features shops, eateries, and arts, spanning 12 acres with tree-lined streets and grassy areas.
  • Cornerstone Sonoma: (In the town of Sonoma) Cornerstone is pet-friendly and features unique shops, as well as the Sunset Magazine Outdoor Kitchen and Gardens.
  • Swede’s Feeds (Kenwood): This pet-friendly, family-owned shop stocks garden and pet supplies, an eclectic selection of household items, and a variety of handmade garden sculptures. You can’t miss the 10-foot dinosaur out front.

Pet-Friendly Wineries

  • Mutt Lynch Winery (Windsor): Voted the most dog-friendly winery by Bay Woof magazine, the winery regularly holds dog-themed events like Yappy Hours. A portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold is donated to local animal rescue organizations. 
  • Kunde Family Winery (Kenwood): This dog-friendly winery periodically offers a four-hour dog hike for guests and their furry friends. The hike includes wine tasting and a wine-country lunch, with a portion of the cost donated to an animal rescue.
  • Larson Family Winery (Sonoma): Dogs are welcome to accompany their human companions on a picnic or private party at Larson Family Winery. Walk together or relax in the spacious area overlooking the vineyards.
  • Bartholomew Estate Winery (Sonoma): Sip estate-grown wines while your pup enjoys complimentary dog treats. The winery is nestled in the historic 375-acre Bartholomew Park with a 3-mile hiking trail, shady paths, and picnic tables — all open to dogs on leash.
  • West Wines (Healdsburg): This pet-friendly small winery is run by a husband-and-wife team. Dogs can enjoy some water and shade outside by the outdoor seating area overlooking the vineyard.

Off-Leash, Fenced Dog Parks

The charming Sonoma Wine Country town of Healdsburg has fenced dog areas, including Badger Park (0.5 acres) and Villa Chanticleer (1.5 acres).

The town of Sonoma offers a quarter-acre off-leash dog area at 151 First St. W., with a picnic table and benches. The Ernie Smith Community Park, also in the town of Sonoma, offers a half-acre off-leash dog park.

Petaluma offers several fenced dog-run areas. The largest is the 7.83-acre Rocky Memorial Dog Park.

Sebastopol boasts Ragle Ranch Regional Park, a half-acre off-leash play area with redwood chips, a watering area, and a small agility course. Special “small dog” hours are offered daily.

Rohnert Park has three enclosed dog areas where dogs can run off-leash: Rohnert Bark, Field of Friends, and Rohnert Park Animal Shelter.

Santa Rosa’s fenced, off-leash areas for dogs include several favorites, such as the half-acre areas at Galvin Community Park, Harvest Park, Rincon Valley Community Park, and many more.

In Glen Ellen at the Sonoma Valley Regional Park, dog lovers flock to Elizabeth Anne Perrone Dog Park, a one-acre, off-leash play area with a double-gated entry, a dog drinking fountain, and a shade pavilion.

The town of Windsor has a half-acre dog park within Pleasant Oak Park at 302 Sugar Maple Lane.

There are so many pet-friendly places and businesses in Sonoma County that we may have missed a few. Let us know if you find a favorite. Please note that, in this and other counties, pet-friendly areas are for licensed, well-behaved dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under owner control. Rules do change, so double-check with each location before visiting with your animal companions.
