Summer in Sonoma County brings our destination fully into bloom. Cool, fog-kissed mornings give way to longer, sunlit days that stretch into warm evenings as vineyards settle into a deep green canopy, and the landscape ripens under clear skies. Across our inland valleys, family farmstands brim with peak-season produce, roadside fruits and vegetables, and fresh flowers. Outdoor tables stay lively from lunch through sunset in cities and small towns alike, where Sonoma County Wine Country patios hum with relaxed tastings and golden-hour views. Trails beneath towering giant redwoods and along the Pacific Ocean on the rugged Sonoma County coastline invite early morning walks and late afternoon hikes, while lazy afternoons on the Russian River provides welcome relief on warm days. From Sea Ranch in the north to Carneros in the south, summer unfolds with an easy rhythm that draws visitors outdoors to Sonoma County. The season also ushers in a fresh slate of openings, experiences, and more reasons to return.

New in Wineries

Adonna Vineyards & Wines

Adonna Vineyards & Wines, a new Santa Rosa-based wine brand from Japanese American vintner Donna Kato, has launched with small-lot Russian River Valley wines rooted in heritage, sustainability, and a strong sense of place. The label draws from Kato’s background as a biochemist and her family’s farming legacy, with wines shaped by cool-climate Sonoma County vineyards and an intentional, allocation-only model. Its Canfield Vineyard sits on the southern edge of the Russian River Valley, where coastal fog, Goldridge soils, and sustainable farming guide estate Pinot Noir production. The brand’s philosophy reflects Ichigo Ichie, a Japanese concept honoring the beauty of a single shared moment, giving Adonna a distinct story built around presence, resilience, and connection.

Ixcali Farms

Ixcali Farms is helping shape a new chapter in Sonoma County agriculture through regenerative agave cultivation. Located on the slopes of Chalk Hill, the farm grows agaves suited to California’s climate, volcanic soils, and Mediterranean weather patterns. Founded after the 2019 Sonoma wildfires, Ixcali began as a fire-wise agricultural experiment and has grown into a multi-year effort focused on soil health, biodiversity, water resilience, carbon capture, and the future of drought-adapted farming. As the California agave movement gains momentum, Ixcali adds a distinct Sonoma County voice to the emerging conversation around estate-grown agave and regenerative land stewardship.

Seven Moons Farm

Seven Moons Farm in Sonoma brings a rare local crop to Wine Country: Sonoma-grown avocados. The 10-acre farm tends nearly 200 avocado trees, producing Reed, Bacon, Gem, Hass, and Mexicola Grande varieties on a steep, east-facing hillside where morning sun and natural airflow help protect the trees from frost. The farm’s avocados are available in late spring and summer at the Sonoma Valley Certified Farmers Market and Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market, adding a fresh new agricultural dimension to Sonoma County’s farm-driven culinary landscape.

New in Airlines

Southwest Airlines – Sip and Ship

The airline’s new “Sip and Ship” program allows passengers departing from select West Coast wine regions, including Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport to check one case of wine for free. The benefit lets travelers bring home up to 12 bottles of unopened, properly packaged wine weighing less than 50 pounds without paying standard baggage fees. The program launched alongside Southwest’s service to Sonoma County, which now connects with destinations including San Diego, Las Vegas, Denver, and Burbank.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines will expand service from Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport this fall with three new nonstop routes to Boise, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City, beginning Nov. 1. The added service gives travelers more direct access between Sonoma County and key Western U.S. markets, including winter-season connections to mountain and sun destinations. Boise and Salt Lake City are currently unserved markets from Sonoma County while Phoenix adds another popular warm-weather destination. The new routes bring Alaska’s nonstop destination count from Santa Rosa to 12, reinforcing STS as a convenient gateway for Sonoma County Wine Country travelers and visitors. Flights will operate on Embraer 175 aircraft, with Phoenix offered daily and Boise and Salt Lake City offered up to daily through April 2027.

Delta Airlines

Delta Air Lines will launch new nonstop service between Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport on October 6, further expanding Sonoma County’s air connectivity. Operated by SkyWest Airlines as Delta Connection, the route will initially offer two daily flights aboard Embraer E175 aircraft, giving travelers greater access to Delta’s Salt Lake City hub and connections across North America and beyond. The new service marks another milestone for STS, which recorded its busiest year on record in 2025, and strengthens the airport’s role as a convenient gateway for residents, business travelers, and visitors to Sonoma County Wine Country.

New in Experiences

Museum of Sonoma County

The Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Running Fence at 50 Years exhibition at the Museum of Sonoma County marks the 50th anniversary of one of Northern California’s most influential public art projects. On display now through November 8, 2026, the exhibition revisits the legendary Running Fence, the temporary installation created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1976. The project stretched 24.5 miles across Sonoma and Marin counties, where 18-foot-high white fabric panels flowed across ranchlands and hills before descending into the Pacific Ocean. The museum’s exhibition recreates the visual impact and cultural significance of the work through immersive design, archival photography, digital installations, and firsthand accounts that document the four-year effort required to plan, permit, and build the installation. Visitors can explore the creative and logistical story behind the project through original artifacts and historical material. Exhibition highlights include sections of the original fabric fence panels, engineering plans, tools and worker gear used during construction, and photographs by project photographer Wolfgang Volz. Together, these elements illustrate how Running Fence transformed the Sonoma County landscape for two weeks in 1976 and secured its place as one of the most ambitious and widely recognized environmental artworks ever created.

Hawley Winery

Family-owned Hawley Winery has introduced a new Falconry & Wine experience in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, offering a distinctive, hands-on addition to our region’s evolving visitor experiences. The weekly program pairs guided estate wine tastings with an immersive vineyard walk led by founder and lifelong falconer John Hawley. Guests engage directly with trained birds of prey while learning about their role in sustainable vineyard management, as well as the family’s deep-rooted connection to both winemaking and falconry. The experience reflects a broader commitment to conservation and education, building on the winery’s ongoing support of raptor rescue and rehabilitation efforts, while delivering a uniquely Sonoma County blend of agriculture, craftsmanship, and experiential travel.

Cannabis Tourism

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has approved a comprehensive overhaul of its cannabis ordinance, expanding opportunities for operators across the region. The milestone follows an extensive environmental review and a multi-phase process that includes public engagement, industry input, and alignment with state regulations. The updated framework positions Sonoma County as a global leader in integrating cannabis into the broader agricultural economy. Effective July 1, 2026, subject to final legal processes, the ordinance establishes a clear pathway for on-farm cannabis tourism and educational experiences, reclassifies cannabis as “controlled agriculture” to extend certain Right to Farm protections and reduce redundant regulations, authorizes onsite farm sales similar to winery models, and increases cultivation flexibility to support crop rotation, plant spacing, and long-term environmental stewardship.
