St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, Santa Rosa

There’s a lot more to do at Sonoma County wineries than simply tasting Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, sparkling wines and more. You could book winery tours via limo, vintage VW bus, bike or trolley, or even explore the vineyards on horseback. Consider adventure pairings like cycling or kayaking between tasting rooms, or exploring wine caves located all over the county. Lots of Sonoma County wineries welcome kids and dogs, and many are ADA accessible.

The best times to visit Sonoma County are early spring, when vineyards bloom with yellow mustard; early summer, when grapevines are green and temperatures mild; and late September to early October, when grape harvest is in full swing. Winter is misty, breezy, and green, and while vineyards are bare, lighter crowds mean it’s easy to book tastings, tables, and rooms.

To get here, you might take a Sonoma County wine tasting road trip, or consider transportation options like the regional SMART train. There are fabulous restaurants in every city and town, and activities in Sonoma County range from festivals and special events to golf, beachcombing, and even checking out museums.
